Former Mossad Chief Yossi Cohen Joins Quantum X Lab Scientific Council

Former Mossad Director Yossi Cohen has been appointed as the president of the scientific council of Quantum X Lab, an Israeli quantum technology startup traded on Nasdaq. Founded about two years ago, QXL focuses on multidisciplinary quantum technologies, including the development of quantum-based GPS alternatives and solutions based on atomic precision. The company was founded by Prof. Nir Sharon from Tel Aviv University and Viki Baranes, formerly a senior figure at Baker Tilly.

Baranes, CEO of QXL, stated that Cohen was not brought in merely as a symbolic name, noting that the company is developing unique capabilities ranging from quantum sensing for navigation and timing to quantum cyber, which will be tested in real-world scenarios. Just last month, Cohen was appointed as a strategic advisor to Japanese investment bank SoftBank, where he has been involved since 2021.

Cohen will join a scientific council that includes Prof. Oren Kurland from the Technion and Prof. Oren Raz from the Weizmann Institute of Science. QXL representatives noted that Cohen will be actively involved in shaping the company's strategic direction in quantum computing and assisting in advancing international partnerships ahead of the commercialization of its technologies.
