Security Officials Warn of Sharp Surge in West Bank Nationalist Crime
Security officials warn of a sharp surge in West Bank nationalist crime, approaching 2023 record highs, driven by a radicalized core of youths conducting planned expulsions and illegal outposts.

Security officials have raised deep concerns over a sharp and continuous surge in nationalist crime in the West Bank, even as Palestinian terrorism witnesses a significant decline. According to security data, the number of incidents has risen dramatically since the beginning of the war, approaching the record levels seen in 2023.
"We are talking about a hard core of some 300 to 500 youths who are complete wild growths," a security source stated. While incidents totaled about 800 in 2025, figures by early October have already surpassed 950 incidents, coming very close to the 980 recorded throughout the entirety of 2023. Officials point to a sharp turning point following the launch of Operation "Roar of the Lion" on February 28, which marked an escalation in both frequency and severity.
The Shift in Tactics and Political Backing
Security officials emphasize that the nature of these actions has evolved. "If in the past they would justify their actions as retaliation for terror attacks, today the mood has completely changed—these are planned invasions meant to carry out expulsions," the source noted. Despite directives from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to evacuate unauthorized outposts within Areas A and B, violent actors continue to establish illegal outposts in defiance of these orders.
Furthermore, the defense establishment sharply criticizes the political backing these rioters receive. "There are members of kinsu and ministers who visit illegal outposts and grant them full backing," officials stated. The IDF notes that a primary difficulty in combating the phenomenon lies in the disparity of tools. While the military employs extensive intelligence and heavy assets against Palestinian terrorists, collecting intelligence on Israeli citizens is heavily restricted.
Call for Expanded Enforcement and Economic Sanctions
To curb the phenomenon, security officials call for a multi-pronged approach involving education, deterrence, and economic measures. These include vehicle confiscation regulations, financial penalties, and closing legal loopholes regarding unauthorized funding. "These wild youths raise funds; why is this not defined as illegal fundraising?" security sources questioned, urging the judicial system to adopt a firmer stance against offenders.
Officials also warned of the broader strategic fallout, noting that the pressure from international allies—particularly the United States—over nationalist violence threatens to undermine Israel's strategic achievements and settlement assets built over recent years.
