Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed with President Donald Trump last week the possibility of resuming military operations against Iran. US officials reported that Netanyahu appeared keen to launch strikes before the upcoming elections, citing concerning nuclear developments by Tehran.

Strategic Timing and Political Implications

Resuming the conflict with Iran could heavily influence both the Israeli elections on October 27 and the US midterm elections on November 3. Although President Trump stated he would not attack Iran before the elections, the IDF and US Central Command remain on high alert.

"Go ahead and prepare," President Trump reportedly told Netanyahu without offering a firm commitment, according to a senior US official.

During recent meetings with defense chiefs, Netanyahu claimed that Trump initiated the discussion regarding renewed military action and inquired whether Israel would join the operation.

Military Readiness and IDF Concerns

IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, spoke last week with US counterparts regarding potential military actions. Zamir noted that resuming hostilities could lead to a postponement of the Israeli elections due to expected ballistic missile retaliation from Iran.

  • High alert status maintained by the IDF and CENTCOM.

  • Economic sanctions continue to be favored by most presidential advisers.

  • Qatar-mediated talks remain at a standstill.
