Is your password weak? Google will let Gemini change it for you
How many times have you promised yourself to organize your passwords, only to give up due to the hassle involved? Reusing passwords is a dangerous habit, but manually updating dozens of sites is exhausting. Google is developing a smart solution to handle this process directly from the browser.

How many times have you promised yourself to organize your passwords, only to give up due to the hassle involved? Reusing passwords is a dangerous habit, but manually updating dozens of sites is exhausting. Google is developing a smart solution to handle this process directly from the browser.
How it will work
In the latest experimental version of Chrome for desktop, a new feature powered by Gemini has been discovered. Instead of the standard "Change password" button that redirects to an external site, a new button appears with the Gemini logo: "Change it for me." Google's goal is to allow the AI to manage the entire password change process from start to finish without requiring user intervention.
This option is based on an existing Chrome feature that replaces breached passwords on supported sites. However, this AI integration is intended to also handle weak or reused passwords. The feature was discovered in hidden browser settings and is a direct continuation of code Google began developing in 2024 to streamline security management.
Is it safe to use?
Despite its promise, the feature is in the early stages of development and remains unstable. Initial tests showed the system getting stuck at the login stage and displaying errors. Beyond technical hurdles, experts raise concerns about handing over control of original passwords to AI. Studies suggest that AI-generated passwords can be flawed, and automated processes sometimes struggle with two-factor authentication or complex forms.
Currently, the feature is not available in stable versions of Chrome or on Android. Google will need to work extensively to resolve security and compatibility issues. If the company succeeds in making the process reliable, it could save users significant time and greatly enhance web security.
