In the security establishment, it is estimated that the terrorists hiding in the infrastructure have supplies left for only a few weeks. Against this background, Hezbollah is taking a desperate step and trying to recruit Iran for its assistance against Israel.
As mentioned, the Saudi newspaper 'Asharq Al-Awsat' reported at the beginning of the week that the Ali al-Taher ridge is currently at the center of events in southern Lebanon. The report emphasized the firm position of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who insists on Israeli control over the ridge unless Hezbollah agrees to evacuate from the ridge and hand it over to the Lebanese army.
According to the report, American General Joseph Cleerfield is working urgently between Beirut and Tel Aviv to formulate a monitoring mechanism for the deployment of the Lebanese army in the pilot areas, while establishing agreed-upon maps and ensuring the dismantling of the Hezbollah terrorist organization's infrastructure. At the same time, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri accuses Israel of attempting to destabilize the region and impose a new security zone.
Alongside the diplomatic contacts, the report opens a rare window into the internal dilemmas in Lebanon and the operational distress of Hezbollah on the ground: according to the newspaper, Hezbollah refuses to transfer the hills to the Lebanese army due to fear and historical paranoia that the withdrawal of its fighters would make it easier for the IDF to take over the ridge – as they claimed happened in the past with the Beaufort fortress.
As recalled, last June, the IDF operated on the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge overlooking the Nabatieh area. As part of the activity, dozens of Hezbollah terrorists were surrounded inside an "underground city" that served as the central headquarters of the "Badr unit" in the area, and which was apparently revealed in a propaganda video published by the organization in 2024.
