Cut discovered in Kibbutz Zikim fence, residents instructed to shelter in homes
The kibbutz security coordinator reported a cut identified in the perimeter fence. IDF forces were scrambled to the scene and began extensive searches. At this stage, no suspects have been located and it is impossible to determine when the cut was made. A resident of the kibbutz: "My daughter cried and said - let them not come again."
IDF forces were scrambled tonight (between Friday and Saturday) to the area of Kibbutz Zikim in the western Negev, following a report from the settlement's security coordinator, who identified a cut in the perimeter fence.
Upon arrival, the forces began extensive searches in the area to rule out the possibility of an unusual incident or infiltration. As of this evening, no suspects have been located, and at this stage, it is impossible to determine when the cut in the fence was made.
Based on checks conducted with the observation system, there is currently no evidence of a crossing from the Gaza Strip. IDF forces continue searches in the area to ensure there is no threat and to maintain security.
"Let them not come again"
A resident of Zikim who asked to remain anonymous described the night:
"My daughter shouted: let them not come again. I am afraid. They were literally shaking with fear and crying. In one moment, the nightmare of October 7th returned."
Against the backdrop of the security cabinet meeting held last Thursday, the heads of the Gaza envelope councils appealed to the cabinet ministers with a demand to establish that the full demilitarization of the Gaza Strip be a prerequisite for any move of rehabilitation, transfer of powers, or further withdrawal.
The council heads clarified that responsibility for the security of the envelope settlements must remain in the hands of Israel, alongside the ability to act independently against any renewed threat. According to them:
"After October 7th, Israel no longer has room for mistakes based on assumptions or external supervision. The rehabilitation of the Strip cannot precede the restoration of security and the restoration of the trust of the envelope residents in Israel."
