Ukraine Eliminates Russian General Anton Gronis in Donetsk Drone Strike
Ukraine announced the elimination of Russian General Anton Gronis in a drone strike in the Donetsk region. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces liberated 85 square kilometers of territory during recent operations.
Ukraine has eliminated Russian General Anton Gronis, commander of the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian army, in a drone strike in the Donetsk region, Robert Madyar Brovdi, commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, announced on Wednesday.
Propaganda Fallout and Presidential Praise
Major General Gronis previously made headlines when he personally reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the fall of the city of Kostiantynivka to the Russian army—a report that later proved false, but was heavily promoted by the Kremlin's propaganda machine. Putin praised Gronis and awarded him a military medal for his service.
"As a person with a Hungarian surname, born in Ukraine, using 'birds' [drones] to fight for the Motherland, I report in a clear and unequivocal voice: General Gronis was eliminated by the revenge department of the USF 'birds' unit, on September 12, 2026, at his nighttime hideout in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region," Madyar wrote regarding the elimination.
Recent Developments on the Frontline
Gronis is reportedly the seventh general-ranking commander to be eliminated by drones during the war in Ukraine and one of the highest-ranking officers to be killed in recent months. Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reported that the Ukrainian army successfully liberated a large area in the Donetsk region as part of Operation Vivaldi launched in recent weeks.
