The Chief Standardization Officer at the Ministry of Economy and Industry has issued an urgent warning to consumers in Israel, urging anyone who purchased a popular iPhone charger to stop using it immediately. The warning follows an official recall notice issued by "Bakshi Zohar", the importer and marketer of the product in the country.

The product subject to the recall is a 20W iPhone charger by the brand TREQA, model CH-9025, bearing the barcode 6972047909247 (country of origin: China). The decision to pull the product from shelves and issue a recall was made following comprehensive laboratory tests conducted by the Standards Institution of Israel.

Severe Safety Flaws and Fire Hazards

The laboratory findings indicate that the charger fails to meet the official Israeli standard (SI 62368 Part 1) concerning audio, video, information technology, and communication technology equipment safety requirements. According to the tests, the charger poses critical dangers to users:

  • Risk of Fire and Short Circuit: The casing and internal components lack adequate resistance to heat and fire, which can lead to rapid ignition.

  • Structural Defects: Engineering flaws in the casing and plug raise direct electrocution risks during insertion or removal from wall sockets.

  • Electrical Insulation Failure: The product failed dielectric strength tests, failing to prevent dangerous current leakage.

"Consumers holding this model charger are urged to cease its use immediately and contact the importer for a product return and refund details," the Ministry of Economy and Industry stated.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers who own the affected TREQA charger are requested to immediately disconnect it and reach out to the importer. Inquiries and returns can be coordinated via email at [email protected] or by phone at 04-6596385 (contact person: Orna).
