Indictment Filed Against Tel Aviv Man for Restaurant Break-In
An indictment was filed against a Tel Aviv resident who broke into a restaurant and was caught after the owner spotted him wearing her stolen shoes and hat.
An indictment was filed today (Wednesday) against a 64-year-old Tel Aviv resident who broke into a restaurant on Menachem Begin Road after shattering its glass door with a stone. He was arrested near the scene with knives and burglary tools in his pockets, after the owner spotted him walking around with property stolen from the business.
According to the indictment, in the morning hours, Taysir Mahamid arrived at the restaurant, smashed the front door's window, and entered the premises. Stolen items included 300 shekels in cash, an electric shawarma machine, beverage bottles, a bag, a hat, and shoes.
The incident ended when the restaurant owner noticed Mahamid on the street wearing her straw hat, carrying the bag, and wearing her kitchen staff shoes. She photographed him and called the Police of Israel. Officers who arrived at the scene arrested him and found in his possession two utility knives and parrot-type metal cutters used for cutting locks and bars.
During his interrogation, the defendant confessed to the break-in and explained: "I entered the restaurant because I was hungry." He confirmed taking beverage bottles and cans, but denied stealing the money and the shawarma machine. He claimed he found the knives and burglary tools on the street by chance. The police asked the court to extend his detention until the end of the legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the prosecution unit filed another indictment against a 55-year-old man from Bat Yam who was arrested after breaking into cars in the city. The investigation was opened last month following reports of a series of vehicle break-ins. Investigators managed to link the defendant to two cases committed on the same day, in one of which he used a hammer to smash a car window.
