Central Arava Farmers Dispatch Final Palm Fronds for Sukkot Sukkah Roofing
Central Arava farmers are dispatching the final shipments of palm fronds for Sukkot Sukkah roofing ahead of the holiday, alongside the ongoing seasonal Medjool date harvest.
Farmers in the Central Arava have begun shipping the final batches of palm fronds used for Sukkah roofing ahead of the Sukkot holiday. Trucks loaded with the produce will leave the plantations until the eve of the holiday on Friday to meet nationwide demand.
The harvesting of palm fronds is carried out exclusively from mature trees and in plantations where the date harvest has already concluded. In most Central Arava plantations, the harvesting of Medjool dates is still ongoing and is expected to conclude in the near future.
Hila Elbaz, a farmer and date plantation owner from Moshav Hatzeva, addressed the harvesting tradition, explaining that the date palm grows in the desert despite harsh conditions and symbolizes the resilience of the people of Israel. She stated that every harvested frond is a reminder of deep roots, unity, and hope, while wishing for the safe return of all soldiers.
Medjool dates grown in the region are in high demand locally and internationally due to their fiber-free texture, achieved through hot climate conditions, brackish water irrigation, and agricultural research collaboration.
