Tel Aviv Fugitive Arrested in Eilat After Month on the Run Over Threats
Police in Eilat arrested a 47-year-old Tel Aviv resident who had been on the run for nearly a month after threatening an officer. He was captured following a mall dispute.
Police arrested a 47-year-old Tel Aviv resident in Eilat on Saturday evening, nearly a month after he fled from officers in his home city and threatened to harm one of them and his family. The suspect was apprehended following a complaint regarding a dispute at a shopping mall and was brought before a court for a remand extension.
In early September, police officers were dispatched to handle a neighborly dispute in Tel Aviv. Upon arriving at the scene, one of the involved parties was asked to stop for questioning. He refused to comply with the instructions, fled the scene, and shouted explicit threats toward one of the officers, promising to harm him and his relatives. Since then, his whereabouts had been unknown, and police had been attempting to locate him.
The turning point came on Saturday evening, hundreds of kilometers away from the original incident scene. A report regarding threats at a shopping mall in Eilat led to the dispatch of local police forces to the location. The officers detained those present and checked their identities, at which point it was discovered that one of them was the central region resident wanted for questioning for weeks.
The man was arrested on the spot and transferred northward for further processing at his local police station. Following an initial investigation, he was detained, and today he was brought before a court which decided to extend his arrest until tomorrow.
