TCL Unveils P80 Smartphone Series with NxtPaper AMOLED Displays

At the ongoing IFA 2026 exhibition in Berlin, TCL has officially introduced the P80 series, marking its first smartphones to combine the paper-like NxtPaper display technology with AMOLED panels. In Israel, the new lineup is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2027 via official distributor c-data, with local pricing yet to be announced.

Flagship TCL P80 Ultra

The premium model in the lineup, the TCL P80 Ultra, features a 6.8-inch NxtPaper AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,200 nits. According to the company, harmful blue light emissions have been reduced to 2.9% without compromising image quality. The screen is protected by Nano Crystal Shield Glass designed to minimize reflections.

Under the hood, the P80 Ultra is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite processor, paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It packs a 5,800mAh battery supporting 45W wired fast charging.

The camera system consists of:

A 50MP main sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS);
A 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom (0.64µm pixels, f/2.4, OIS);
An 8MP ultra-wide lens;
A 32MP front-facing camera.

The device features an aluminum frame, IP68 dust and water resistance, and MIL-STD-810H military-grade drop protection. It is available in Gold, Burgundy, and Blue.

Reading Modes and AI Capabilities

All NxtPaper devices feature a dedicated physical side slider to activate specialized reading modes, including Max Ink. In this state, most notifications are blocked except for calls and text messages, background applications are put to sleep, and the screen transitions to monochrome. TCL claims this mode can extend battery life to up to 7 days of continuous reading.

The smartphones come preloaded with over 500 e-books and feature integrated artificial intelligence (AI) tools capable of converting e-books into audiobooks or podcast-style formats.

TCL positions this technology not only as an eye-comfort feature but also as a tool to reduce overall screen time, making the devices highly appealing to parents. While the previous generation P60 shown at last year's IFA did not make it to the Israeli market, TCL guarantees that the P80 series will officially arrive in early 2027.

P80 Pro and Base P80 Models

The TCL P80 Pro shares the same 6.8-inch NxtPaper AMOLED display (1.5K, 120Hz, 3,200 nits peak brightness) but features a scaled-down camera setup. It lacks the 3x periscope lens, utilizing a 50MP main camera (1/1.56-inch sensor with OIS) and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. Performance is driven by either the Dimensity 7400 Elite or the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip, backed by 8GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a 5,800mAh battery with 45W charging.

The entry-level TCL P80 mirrors the Pro model's specifications but omits the matte NxtPaper coating. It features a standard glossy 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 3,200 nits peak brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. Storage configurations start at 128GB and go up to 256GB.
