Reality star: "I know from my own experience what it means when you have nothing"
Today, Eliav Sasson is a sought-after and successful wedding dress designer, as well as a talented cook who impresses the judges of "MasterChef" with every dish. But as a child, he had to deal with long periods where money was scarce and the economic situation was challenging. Tonight, he shares how the hardships of his childhood taught him to appreciate food and what drove him forward: "This experience built my engine for success."
Eliav Sasson proved from the very first dish that he came to this season of "MasterChef" with the goal of winning. After passing the tasks so far with great success, tonight (Thursday, after the news, Keshet 12) he does not intend to settle for less. As the battle for a ticket to the final four heats up, Sasson shares the story of his difficult childhood and how it shaped the person he is today.
"I know from my own experience what it means when you have nothing," says Sasson, elaborating on the importance of food in his family: "From a young age, I always had deep sentiments towards food. My family did not come from nobility; people appreciated every bite. I went through periods of great austerity and hardship, and I appreciate every penny and every meatball."
The contestant elaborates on the small family unit that did not have much money, but he did not give up: "It was me, my mother, and my sister against the world, living shekel by shekel to survive another month. I will forever remember the moments my mother tried to hide our struggles from me, but I was a precocious child, so I always saw and felt everything. This experience of hardship is what built my entire engine for success; there was no room for victimhood or time to indulge, I worked two jobs. As Rabbi Nachman says, a person is where their thoughts are, and I chose at a very young age to live in the mindset of 'abundance'."
