Israeli defense-tech firm Spectralx has signed a 35 million shekel contract to supply advanced camouflage systems to a European NATO member state, enhancing battlefield survivability.
Israeli defense-tech company Spectralx has secured a major contract to supply tens of thousands of advanced camouflage systems to a NATO member state in Europe, valued at over 35 million shekels. The agreement, reported here for the first time, required delivery within just three months, against the backdrop of NATO's ambitious target for defense budgets to reach 5% of GDP by 2035.
Spectralx specializes in advanced multi-spectral signature management and camouflage solutions. The systems supplied by the company are designed to minimize the exposure of forces and operational assets to various detection, observation, and sensing devices on the modern battlefield, thereby enhancing their survivability and freedom of movement.
The Israeli company is currently completing the training and integration process among the special forces of the European NATO nation. Long before this international deal, the company's products were deployed within Israel's security establishment. Following October 7, the IDF increasingly recognized the critical necessity of concealing air defense systems and troops from enemy detection. Such combat-proven applications serve as a vital marketing tool for Israeli defense firms globally.
Advanced Camouflage and Combat Lessons
Spectralx maintains a subsidiary in the United States and a manufacturing footprint in Africa, aligning with the international localization trend in the defense sector. Founded in 2008 by CEO Asaf Pichotout and Asaf Miller, the company employs over 70 people. The founders conceived the technology as a lesson learned from their reserve service in the Maglan unit during the Second Lebanon War, where they identified a critical lack of countermeasures against Hezbollah's detection assets.
Since then, the company has focused on reducing the signature of objects on the battlefield. "They are a wonderful company, practical and efficient for the combat soldier," a senior defense official told. "Their camouflage capabilities are truly advanced."
Spectralx operates across all operational echelons, from the individual soldier to complex air defense systems. The challenge of defeating enemy detection is currently at its peak, with the company handling multiple spectrums simultaneously. Modern battlefields, including Yemen and Ukraine, have highlighted that electronic-optical detection and drones pose severe threats, making advanced multi-spectral concealment indispensable.
Product Portfolio and Anti-Drone Defense
Spectralx's portfolio features three core product lines. The first is Armadillo (Thermal Visual Concealment - TVC), a multi-spectral camouflage sheet that reduces the visual and thermal signature of combatants, outposts, and platforms, obstructing detection by thermal sensors and radar.
The second is Hotaru (known in the IDF as Tehal), an identification friend-or-foe system designed for infantry forces to minimize the risk of friendly fire during night vision and thermal operations. The advanced generation enables recognition from aircraft and remote systems.
The third is Magneto, a personal energy system for combatants designed to replace multiple batteries and cables, supplying uninterrupted power to various electronic equipment.
