Manor Solomon Shines Ahead of Israel's Opener
Twelve days before the Israeli national team faces Austria away in the opening match of the UEFA Nations League campaign, the squad finally received some positive news after Manor Solomon put on a stellar performance for West Ham on Friday night and was named man of the match.
The past week had been difficult for national coach Ran Ben Shimon. It began with a knee injury to Itay Rotman, the Hapoel Be'er Sheva center-back, and continued when it was learned from the United States that Or Blorian had undergone a dramatic medical procedure and will be sidelined from football for the coming months. In addition to these two center-backs, Stav Lemkin is currently in Israel receiving injections to accelerate his recovery from an abdominal muscle injury.
Roster Challenges and Travel Complications
The national team is facing a complex problem ahead of the match against Austria next Thursday. The team will fly to Vienna as early as Sunday, but all players based in the United States, except for Sayed Abu Farhi, will arrive and join the squad only on Tuesday and Wednesday, barely 24 hours before the opening match.
"The quartet will depart from the United States only after the end of Yom Kippur, leaving the team with at most a single concluding training session before facing Austria," team sources noted.
Defensive Dilemmas for Ben Shimon
Meanwhile, Ben Shimon continues his search for suitable candidates to replace the defensive players he lost in recent days. Currently, in terms of fit center-backs, the coach only has Idan Nachmias and Nikita Stoyanov available. An option being examined is to recall Miguel Vitor to the squad. The veteran defender has started the season excellently with Hapoel Be'er Sheva, though other options remain, notably Maccabi Tel Aviv defender Raz Shlomo.
Two left-backs slated to start in Monday's derby, Doron Leidner and Noam Ben Harush, are competing for a spot in the national roster, and the upcoming match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv will heavily influence Ben Shimon's final decision.
