Shelton's Path to the Final
After stunning defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, Shelton defeated Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, 7-5 in the semifinals. Although Zverev holds a 5-0 head-to-head advantage against the 23-year-old American, Shelton remains confident.
"The key for me here has been problem-solving. I was 1-0 down against Tsitsipas and 3-0 against Carlos, and Frances beat me the last time we played on this court. I feel like a different player," Shelton said.
Fighting for History
Beyond his rivalry with Zverev, Shelton dedicated his emotional semifinal win to his late paternal grandmother, who passed away in March. He also rallied the home crowd ahead of the Sunday showdown, calling for their full energy as he looks to capture his maiden Grand Slam title. Meanwhile, Zverev, who claimed the French Open earlier this year, acknowledged the challenge, joking after his semifinal: "I hope I won't fulfill the American dream on Sunday."
