Shin Bet Built Secret Tunnel for Netanyahu Ahead of Yom Kippur
Shin Bet and security officials built a secret sterile tunnel in Jerusalem to connect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence to a synagogue for Yom Kippur, but construction halted and it went unused.
The Shin Bet and the Prime Ministry's security division constructed a secret 15-to-20-meter sterile tunnel connecting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's private residence on Gaza Street in Jerusalem to the Yad Tamar Synagogue ahead of Yom Kippur.
The underground passage, equipped with air conditioning, was built to allow the Prime Minister to attend holiday prayers securely. However, construction was halted hours before the holiday, and Netanyahu ultimately did not use the route or visit the synagogue.
The project caused significant disruption for local residents, requiring street closures, the removal of public parking, and the deployment of metal detectors, generators, and police forces. Meanwhile, President Isaac Herzog walked to his local synagogue for Yom Kippur without any special infrastructure.
