IDF Operates Across West Bank as Ministers Weigh Terrorist Death Penalty
The IDF updated operations following a deadly Binyamin terror attack, as ministers discussed potentially applying the death penalty for terrorists to the arrested gunman.
Following the deadly terror attack in the Binyamin region, the IDF provided an update on its operations over Yom Kippur. Duvdevan fighters in Qabatiya arrested two terrorists planning an immediate attack.
During the holiday, forces mapped the home of the terrorist from the Binyamin attack in the village of Biddu. The Binyamin Brigade also conducted a sweep of 100 locations, questioning 90 suspects and seizing a hunting rifle. In Beit Ur al-Tahta, Duvdevan located a lathe, two Carlo-style submachine guns, and additional weaponry, while the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit questioned suspects and detained wanted individuals. Explosive precursors were also found in the Menashe region.
Hours before the fast, a security discussion on Judea and Samaria was held. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir raised the possibility of applying the death penalty for terrorists to Qadri Samara, the terrorist who murdered Netanel Shakron. Samara was captured in a Ramallah clinic following a manhunt after being wounded by a tracker and surrounded by Duvdevan forces.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked security officials about the feasibility of applying the law, and officials stated there was no operational impediment. However, Military Advocate General Yitav Ofir was absent from the discussion. Consequently, the security cabinet will hold another professional meeting with the Military Advocate General to examine implementation.
