Shayetet 13 Commando Unit Deploys to West Bank Amid Escalating Tensions
Elite naval commando unit Shayetet 13 has deployed to the West Bank amid escalating tensions, nationalist friction, and heightened security alerts across the region.
Amid growing security concerns over potential escalation in the West Bank and ongoing violent clashes between Israelis and Palestinians, the elite naval commando unit Shayetet 13 has deployed to the Judea Regional Brigade sector to operate against high-value targets and in flashpoint areas.
A security official stated in response to the reports that Shayetet 13 is contributing to the counter-terrorism effort in the West Bank, adding that all special forces units are expected to take part in counter-terrorism operations there. According to the official, "this is a very sensitive period with high potential for escalation."
Two days ago, it was reported that the IDF warned that friction events between Israelis and Palestinians across the West Bank could ignite the region. Following a series of situational assessments in the IDF, terrain analysis amid warnings, incitement, and a sharp rise in nationalist crime and friction, the situation was defined as "explosive" and at risk of deteriorating at any moment.
Accordingly, it was decided to reinforce forces around communities and main routes with 26 battalions across the Central Command. This includes nine combat companies deployed to expand territorial control and maintain high readiness for various sudden incidents.
