Sacha Baron Cohen to Star in Quentin Tarantino's Debut West End Play

Sacha Baron Cohen is set to star in the first-ever play written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, titled The Popinjay Cavalier. The production is scheduled to premiere in London's West End in the spring of 2027, though the specific theatre and the rest of the cast have yet to be announced.

A 19th-Century Adventure

Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but the play is described as a wild adventure comedy about deception and mistaken identity set in 19th-century Europe. It draws inspiration from classic adventure epics, swordplay, and romantic heroes. Baron Cohen is expected to play the title role, a romantic and adventurous hero reminiscent of silent film star Douglas Fairbanks.

"Tarantino is deeply knowledgeable about the theater world and particularly interested in the experience the audience will have," producer Sonia Friedman noted.

Moving to London

For the British comedian, best known for characters like Borat and Ali G, this will mark his first leading role in a major professional theatrical production. Tarantino, who has been living in Tel Aviv in recent years, stated that he intends to relocate with his family to England and dedicate 18 to 24 months to the project. He also hinted that if the West End run is successful, he might take it on a global tour and potentially adapt it into his tenth and final feature film.
