Ronaldo: "This will probably be my last year in football"
About a month after parting ways with the World Cup games, the Portuguese phenomenon shares in an interview with "Vogue" that the upcoming season might be the one that concludes his club career: "I want to leave behind a spectacular legacy."
Will Cristiano Ronaldo hang up his boots at the end of the upcoming season? The Portuguese phenomenon dropped a bombshell today (Sunday) when he revealed in a joint interview with his wife Georgina to "Vogue" magazine that it is possible the upcoming season will be the one at the end of which he will announce his retirement.
"This will probably be my last year in football," said the 41-year-old Al-Nassr star about a month after parting ways with the World Cup games. "And I want to leave a spectacular legacy."
Georgina said in response: "I am not ready for his retirement, and I probably never will be."
"I am already planning my whole future," the Portuguese continued. "I have so many things that will keep me busy, that it is hard for me to choose just one thing. Retiring from football will leave a big void, and I will have to fill my time with different things, not just one thing." After that, he revealed what he is looking forward to: "I want to enjoy more, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really love."
It should be noted that this is not the first announcement hinting at what is to come. In an interview in November 2025 on the web show 'Piers Morgan Uncensored', he said:
"Retirement will be soon. I think I will be ready for it. It will be hard, of course, I will probably cry, I am a guy who cries easily. I don't keep my emotions inside. I am, yes, I am an open person. But I have been preparing my future since I was 25, 26, so I think I will be able to handle this pressure."
