Penny Lancaster, the wife of British singer Rod Stewart, revealed that doctors recently discovered he had a hidden heart condition after a summer health scare forced him to halt a concert in the US. The 81-year-old music legend was spotted back in June using an oxygen tank backstage, eventually canceling his tour dates after undergoing a procedure to insert a stent into an artery.
Overcoming Health Hurdles
Speaking on Vanessa Feltz's YouTube show At Home With Vanessa, Lancaster explained that Stewart had initially suffered from an upper respiratory infection before the high-altitude performance took a toll. But what we didn't know was that there was a hidden heart issue, she noted, praising her husband's remarkable physical condition and comparing his fitness to someone in their 50s.
Thankfully, it was the right time and the right place, and they discovered a minor blockage that required a stent.
Looking Ahead to the Stage
Lancaster also touched on her husband's broader health battles, noting he previously overcame prostate cancer. Despite medical advice to take up to a month off from touring, she revealed that Stewart has already returned to the gym. In an official Instagram statement, Stewart expressed gratitude to his medical team and disappointment over canceled shows, assuring fans he is eager to return to the stage.
