Indictment Filed Against Detainee for Brutal Ear-Biting Attack in Ramla
A severe indictment was filed against a detainee who bit off part of a minor's ear in a Ramla holding cell, highlighting stricter IPS criminal enforcement led by Kobi Yaakobi.
A severe indictment was filed against a detainee who brutally attacked a 17-year-old minor in a holding cell at the Ramla police station after the teenager refused to join a meal. The assailant punched the victim and bit his ear so violently that a part of it was torn off. This violent incident highlights the ongoing policy shift led by Israel Prisons Service Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi regarding criminal offenses inside detention facilities.
Brutal Attack in a Detention Cell
The violent incident took place on September 29, 2026, inside a holding cell shared by six detainees. According to the indictment, a 24-year-old detainee became enraged when the minor declined an invitation to eat. The suspect cursed the teenager and approached him while other inmates held the victim's arms under the pretext that the minor intended to fight.
The attacker seized the opportunity to rain punches on the teenager's head and sank his teeth into the victim's right ear, tearing off the upper part of the auricle. The severed cartilage fell to the cell floor, and the injury was so severe that doctors could not reattach the tissue, requiring the victim to undergo skin graft surgery.
Stricter Criminal Enforcement in Prisons
"The establishment of a dedicated investigative division within the Israel Prisons Service marks a fundamental change in how inmate-on-inmate violence is handled, ensuring severe crimes lead to criminal indictments rather than mere internal disciplinary measures," officials noted.
This high-profile case underscores the systemic changes championed by IPS Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi. Previously, many violent offenses committed within correctional facilities were handled through internal disciplinary hearings or required complex transfers to Israel Police stations. Under the current administration, the IPS investigative unit directly gathers evidence and builds robust criminal cases, ensuring perpetrators face serious judicial consequences.
