Senior Police Officer Alona Shushan Resigns Amid Investigation

Commander Alona Shushan has resigned from her position as Head of the Human Resources Directorate following months of suspension amid an ongoing criminal investigation. Shushan is the third senior official to leave the Israel Police in connection with the probe involving associates of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

The investigation against Shushan began in June regarding suspected witness tampering. Authorities suspect she recorded former Police Spokesperson Lior Avudraham—a key witness in the case—in an attempt to undermine his credibility. Shushan has denied the allegations and filed a counter-complaint against Avudraham for alleged sexual harassment, which he strongly denies.

Police Inspector General Danny Levi previously met with Shushan, after which she was sent on leave pending the conclusion of the proceedings. The wider case involves Israel Prison Service Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi, whom the Attorney General intends to indict, pending a hearing, for breach of trust and obstruction of justice.
