Qatar Responds to Netanyahu: Hamas Officials Hosted in Doha as Mediators
The Qatari deputy ambassador defended Doha's hosting of Hamas leaders, stating they acted as mediators in negotiations with Israel, the US, and Egypt, while dismissing criticism.
The Qatari Deputy Ambassador responded to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding claims about Hamas leaders residing in Qatar. According to the diplomat, the terror group officials were hosted in the country because it served as a mediator between them and Israel.
"You also know very well why Hamas leaders established themselves in Doha: Qatar served as a communication channel and facilitator in negotiations involving Israel, Hamas, the United States, and Egypt," the Qatari deputy ambassador stated. "U.S. officials have repeatedly described Qatar's mediation role as critical or necessary."
He further added, "His speech to a half-empty room during his remarks at the UN speaks volumes about the support for this message. Blaming Qatar for political failures does not change the facts. Qatar's reported funding of American universities broadly supported the operation of U.S. university campuses in Education City, bringing American higher education to the Middle East."
