Police Officer Injured While Clinging to Fleeing Suspect's Car in Central District
A female police officer was lightly injured in Rishon LeZion after clinging to a fleeing suspect's car door. The suspect was later captured and police will request his remand extension.
A female police officer in Israel's Central District sustained minor injuries on Monday during a pursuit and attempted arrest of a suspect linked to multiple theft and burglary incidents. The officer clung to the vehicle's door as the suspect attempted to flee, driving off with her hanging from the side until she fell onto the road.
According to the Israel Police, two female officers from the Rishon LeZion station spotted the suspect, a resident of Or Yehuda in his 20s, and asked him to identify himself. At some point, the suspect entered his vehicle and attempted to escape. One of the officers noticed this and moved to engage, holding onto the door in an effort to prevent his escape as he drove away.
The injured officer was evacuated for medical treatment, and additional police forces launched a manhunt for the suspect. Following extensive searches, he was located and arrested for questioning.
Police stated they intend to ask the Rishon LeZion Magistrates' Court today to extend his remand, depending on the investigation's needs and findings.
