Police Detective Indicted in Haifa for Assault and Obstruction of Justice

The Department of Police Investigations filed an indictment today against a police detective in the Haifa Magistrates' Court for a series of unlawful assault offenses and obstruction of justice. Filed by Attorney Daniel Arfi, the indictment includes three counts against the primary defendant, involving multiple violent incidents and evidence tampering, with a second detective charged in one instance with obstruction of justice.
According to the first count, in April 2025, the two defendants were driving in a police vehicle with two other officers. The first defendant cut off a civilian car, forcing it to stop after believing its passengers had cursed at him. He then approached the vehicle, opened the door, pinned the driver to his seat, and punched him in the face, causing injuries that required stitches. Subsequently, both defendants submitted false reports to justify the unlawful traffic stop.
The second count attributes an incident from February 2025 in Sajur to the first defendant, during which he severely assaulted a citizen during a police search, punching, knocking him down, kicking him, and later assaulting and threatening him inside the police cruiser. The victim suffered orbital fractures and severe bruising, requiring hospitalization. The officer falsely claimed the citizen was injured by hitting a wall.
The third count involves an assault in January 2025 in the village of Rameh, where the detective punched, scratched, and threatened a civilian while driving in a police vehicle. In this case as well, the officer filed a fabricated report claiming the injuries resulted from the victim's unruly behavior to justify the violence.
