Emergency JNF Meeting Called Amid Galilee Land Tensions and Protests
Emergency talks are underway at the JNF following protests over disputed agricultural land between Majd al-Krum and Gilon, amid accusations of a new outpost and counter-claims of sheep grazing.
An emergency meeting is scheduled at the Jewish National Fund (JNF-KKL) following recent high tensions in the agricultural area between Majd al-Krum and the community of Gilon. Local residents, the local council, and activists protested against the installation of tents, cables, and infrastructure.
Residents claim this is an attempt to establish a new settlement outpost on their lands, threatening access to private olive groves ahead of the harvest season. About 500 protesters gathered at the site, and representatives announced legal actions to examine permit legality with the Israel Land Authority.
Meanwhile, the land lessees reject outpost claims, stating the land was leased from KKL solely for sheep grazing. Volunteers from the West Bank and a pre-military academy in Karmiel are reportedly assisting with livestock facilities.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich criticized the protesters after chants of Free Palestine were heard, claiming the incident symbolizes a loss of governance in the Galilee and criticizing political opponents.
