A medical evacuation plane carrying six people has vanished off the coast of Nantucket in the eastern United States, prompting a massive air and sea search by the Coast Guard. The Gulfstream G100 aircraft took off from Bermuda en route to Boston at 00:41, losing contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) shortly before its scheduled landing.
Flight data indicates that the aircraft made a rapid descent, plunging from 23,500 feet to 11,000 feet in just three minutes while flying over the Atlantic Ocean. The plane disappeared off the coast of Massachusetts after departing from L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda, with the final radar signal recorded at 1:23.
The FAA issued an emergency search and rescue alert at approximately 1:20 for the flight, which was bound for Boston Logan International Airport, according to an FAA spokesperson. The Coast Guard deployed HC-144 aircraft, MH-60 helicopters, a motorized rescue boat, and a cutter to conduct sweeps south of Nantucket.
