A 45-year-old man shot and killed eight people, including his wife, three adult children, and two grandchildren, at a family home in Erie, Pennsylvania, before taking his own life. Among the victims was his 24-year-old daughter, who was heavily pregnant and due to give birth this week.

Two additional women who arrived at the home while the shooting was underway were also shot dead. The gunman was identified by relatives as Matthew Stone, a man described by acquaintances as friendly and smiling, with no one suspecting he was capable of such an act. The massacre occurred late Friday afternoon at a family residence on Perry Street in Erie, located in northwestern Pennsylvania, about 190 kilometers from Pittsburgh.

According to police, seven of the eight victims were relatives of the gunman, while the eighth victim was a friend of one of his daughters. Nine people died as a result of the shooting, including the gunman himself, alongside the unborn child carried by his pregnant daughter. The Erie County Coroner ruled that the death of the unborn baby is also considered a homicide.

Victims and Unborn Child

Based on identifications released by relatives, the victims include the gunman's wife, 44-year-old Michelle Stone, and their three adult children: Angelina Stone, 24; Jonathan Stone, 21; and Matthew Stone II, 19. Two additional victims were Angelina's young children—five-year-old Isaiah and 22-month-old Amriana. The two other victims were 37-year-old Laura Roberts, Michelle's sister and the gunman's sister-in-law, and 51-year-old Tawny Tanner, a family friend.

One of the most harrowing details of the tragedy involves Angelina, who was heavily pregnant and expected to deliver her third child just four days after the massacre. Family members shared that the baby, whom she planned to name Kyrie, was scheduled to be born the following day. However, he did not survive the shooting that claimed the lives of his mother and two young siblings.

"She had two beautiful children and was about to give birth in a few days," said family friend Lisa Simers. "They were beautiful children, and they certainly didn't deserve what happened to them."

Investigation and Community Reaction

Police arrived at the scene within minutes following alerts from a ShotSpotter system that detected gunfire. Inside the home, tactical teams discovered the bodies of the two young children on the first floor and four adult family members in the stairwell leading to the second floor. The gunman was found on the second floor, having apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with a .40-caliber handgun registered in his name lying nearby.

The motive behind the massacre remains unknown, though police noted that the gunman's mental state may have been a contributing factor. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to interview relatives and examine digital evidence.
