Two days of severe discomfort in a commercial center in Yavne ended in a tragedy and a police investigation. What began as repeated complaints about a terrible odor inside a local post office branch took a sharp turn when the remains of a man were discovered near the building's exterior wall.
For several days, the staff at the branch on Doani Street had to deal with impossible working conditions. The air in the building became dense and suffocating, and the intense smell caused those present to suffer from migraines and persistent headaches.
All attempts by the staff to resolve the issue on their own, from operating air conditioning systems at full power to opening all windows, were of no avail.
Following the unbearable situation, an urgent request was sent to the Yavne municipality for assistance. Municipal teams sent to the scene began conducting a perimeter search. During the inspection outside the branch, a grim scene was revealed: adjacent to the building's wall, the body of a man, appearing to be about 30 years old, was located in a state of extreme decomposition.
ZAKA teams summoned to the scene handled the site and transported the deceased for a comprehensive examination at the National Center of Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir. As of now, the identity of the deceased has not been determined, the cause of death is unclear, and an investigation has been opened to examine all circumstances of the incident.
The staff at the branch remained in deep shock upon receiving the news, finding it difficult to process the fact that the unbearable air they endured during their daily routine stemmed from a human tragedy that occurred within arm's reach.
