Nikita Bier, former head of product at the social network X owned by Elon Musk, announced his departure from the company, roughly two months after stepping down from his management role to serve as an adviser. In a post published on the platform, he wrote that he was officially disconnected from his work computer and bid farewell to the company: "Goodnight, my sweet little app. Thank you for giving me the most interesting chapter of my life. Moving on to the next chapter.

However, Bier later published another post revealing the heavy personal toll accompanying his public exposure. "It is hard to build products when crazy people regularly show up at your house and try to harm you or the people you love," he wrote. According to Bier, choosing to be a prominent manager identified with the product was a necessary sacrifice aimed at uniting employees around a common vision and inspiring enthusiasm. Bier did not explicitly state that threats drove his exit, but his remarks follow months of complaints regarding harassment.

Conspiracy Theories and Security Concerns

Against this backdrop, a conspiracy theory has circulated on social networks in recent months alleging that Bier secretly operates on behalf of the Mossad. The theory stemmed from accusations by X users claiming he allegedly abused his position as head of product to skew the network's algorithm in favor of Israel, supposedly by suppressing anti-Israel content and boosting pro-Israel posts amid tensions with Iran. These claims lacked substantiated evidence.

In June, Bier accused Lauren Balik, a New York-based financial analyst and internet personality, of being the first to spread the conspiracy theory. He stated that the rumors gained momentum, triggering a wave of death threats and physical intrusions at his private residence. On June 11, Balik, 35, was found dead near a walking trail at Camp Hero State Park in Montauk, Long Island. New York State Police confirmed her identity and launched an investigation, though initial reports did not disclose her cause of death.

"It is hard to build products when crazy people regularly show up at your house and try to harm you or the people you love," Nikita Bier wrote.

Bier joined X in July 2025 after previously founding social applications tbh and Gas, acquired by Meta and Discord respectively. During his tenure, he led core product changes including the feed, notification system, chat, and user onboarding processes.
