Inside Nvidia Israel: How Senior Director Shirit Belfer Schwartzblat Shapes AI
Shirit Belfer Schwartzblat, senior director at Nvidia Israel, discusses her journey from Mellanox to leading AI chip verification teams and championing women in tech.

Shirit Belfer Schwartzblat, a senior director at Nvidia Israel managing a team of around 160 employees in formal verification, has always been fascinated by how things are built. Growing up in Haifa as the daughter of an aeronautical engineer, her path to the Technion and electrical engineering felt natural. Reflecting on her academic start, she recalls failing early exams in physics and calculus, an experience that taught her resilience.
In 2005, during her second year at the Technion, she attended a career fair and interviewed with Mellanox, then a small and relatively unknown chip-making startup. Impressed by her profile, Mellanox hired her immediately. More than two decades later, Belfer Schwartzblat notes that the core principle of talent acquisition remains unchanged: identifying and securing top human capital swiftly is critical in the tech industry.
Today, she sits on the hiring side, viewing human capital as Nvidia's greatest asset, especially amid the artificial intelligence boom. She compares chip design to urban planning, noting that mistakes are costly because the chips must work flawlessly before manufacturing. Using mathematical tools to formally verify designs ensures that complex logic models operate as intended.
The acquisition of Mellanox by Nvidia connected Israeli engineering directly to the infrastructure powering global AI systems. Belfer Schwartzblat explains that while AI tools are integrated into daily workflows, they do not replace engineers; instead, they serve as a "superpower" that requires skilled professionals to define problems and critically evaluate results.
Beyond her technical leadership, Belfer Schwartzblat leads Nvidia Israel's women in technology initiative, aiming to bring more female talent into the industry. Balancing motherhood with a demanding executive career, she emphasizes the importance of strong partnership at home and expresses optimism about seeing more women in leadership roles in the coming years.
