The new NBA season has barely begun, but an early wave of injuries has already emerged as a major storyline, sidelining numerous stars and key players within the first week. Big names such as Anthony Edwards, Jalen Williams, Kawhi Leonard, Paolo Banchero, and Jaren Jackson Jr. populate a growing injury report, with some facing extended absences.

Minnesota suffered one of the heaviest blows, as guard Anthony Edwards is set to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee on Thursday. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the 25-year-old star is expected to miss up to two months. Despite complaining of knee soreness during a win over Toronto, Edwards played 41 minutes against Cleveland, scoring 47 points in a 127-125 overtime loss.

Edwards, who dealt with issues in the same knee last season, opened the campaign averaging 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Beyond the sporting setback, the prolonged absence jeopardizes his eligibility for major individual honors, as he will likely fall short of the 65-game threshold required for All-NBA teams and the MVP award, potentially impacting a future super-max contract extension.

Oklahoma City also absorbed a severe double blow. Jalen Williams was diagnosed with a fractured fibula and a dislocated left ankle, while Cason Wallace sustained a shoulder tear, with both requiring surgery. Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard will miss at least a week due to swelling in his left knee, and Orlando's Paolo Banchero deals with a mild ankle sprain following a game against Minnesota.

Utah lost Jaren Jackson Jr. to a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee, sidelining the former Defensive Player of the Year for six to eight weeks. Sacramento guard Ben Simmons suffered an Achilles tendon tear in practice and is expected to miss the remainder of the season, further compounding an unprecedented early-season injury crisis across the league.
