Navy Commander Warns Remote Threats Offer No Immunity as Force Expands
The Israeli Navy commander warned Turkey and hostile actors that distant maritime threats offer no immunity, as the force expands with new submarines and missile ships.
The Commander of the Israeli Navy delivered a clear message on Tuesday directed, among others, at Turkey and entities seeking to challenge Israel in distant maritime arenas. He stated that in the current era, there is no longer a "distant front," and anyone attempting to act against Israel from remote maritime spaces should know that distance will not grant them immunity.
According to the commander, the naval arm was built to project the power of the State of Israel and the IDF thousands of miles from the country's shores. Addressing attempts to alter the balance of power in the Mediterranean and Red Seas, the naval chief emphasized that the IDF closely monitors these actions and prepares accordingly.
He further clarified that the Navy will not accept a reality where Israel's strategic interests or maritime freedom of navigation are under threat, declaring that forces will operate "both openly and covertly to fulfill our responsibility and mission by any means." These remarks come against the backdrop of a significant buildup of the naval force, including the sixth submarine INS Drakon (Dragon) currently making its way to Israel, alongside the advancement of the "Hoshen" plan by IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and procurement of Reshef-class missile corvettes.
