Elon Musk Pours Over $276 Million into Republican Midterm Campaigns
Elon Musk has quietly poured over $276 million into Republican groups and his super PAC since July to build a massive ground operation for the US midterm elections.
In recent months, it seemed that Elon Musk was showing less interest in elections, but beneath the surface, the reality is entirely different. Since the beginning of July, the world's richest person has quietly poured more than $276 million into Republican groups and his own political action committee, aiming to build a massive ground operation to help the party counter headwinds in the United States midterm elections.
These colossal sums make Musk, by a wide margin, the largest and most significant known donor in the current midterm cycle. According to a report by The New York Times, Musk's representatives provided the previously unpublished data just ahead of the federal reporting deadline last week.
Backing the Senate and Building Ground Operations
In an effort to save the Republican majority in the Senate, Musk contributed an unprecedented $158 million this summer to the Senate Leadership Fund, the primary body supporting the party's candidates for the legislature. In fact, this is one of the largest political donations in American history, exceeding all the funds raised by the competing Democratic body from all its donors in the same quarter.
In addition, Musk built a sprawling Republican ground operation through America PAC, a political action committee he founded in 2024. This summer, he donated over $76 million to the organization, which was immediately invested in an extensive propaganda program designed to mobilize Republican voters who are difficult to reach through conventional means. The organization is currently active in seven key Senate battleground states and about 36 House races, reporting contact with roughly 6.5 million voter doors nationwide, particularly in vast states like Texas.
"The investments are designed to prevent America from becoming a socialist, progressive, and borderless nation in the event of a Democratic victory," noted Andrew Romeo, spokesman for America PAC.
Strategic Contributions and a Low Profile
Beyond the central donations, his representatives noted that between July and September, he transferred substantial sums to other conservative organizations: $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, $10 million to an organization supporting Ken Paxton's Senate candidacy in Texas, $10 million to the Republican Governors Association, and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association. These contributions coincide with a warming of relations between him and President Donald Trump following a publicized rift.
Unlike in 2024, the billionaire is maintaining a low profile, focusing on his businesses and entrusting day-to-day political decision-making to his senior adviser, Chris Young. On his social media platform X, he has published only seven direct posts regarding midterm candidates this year, testifying to the quiet yet powerful involvement he is managing behind the scenes.
