FBI and Federal Agents Raid Washington Home of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar
Federal agents raided the Washington home of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged immigration fraud.
Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations raided the Washington D.C. home of progressive Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar early Tuesday morning.
The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed the raid was conducted under a judicial search warrant as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. Sources familiar with the matter indicate the probe focuses on serious allegations of immigration fraud, examining immigration documents submitted when she and her family arrived from Somalia. Authorities are also re-examining long-standing claims that Omar married her brother in 2009 to help him secure legal status and U.S. citizenship.
Meanwhile, Omar's congressional office strongly rejected the allegations. Omar has consistently denied these claims over the years, previously describing them as disgusting lies and asserting that she is the target of politically motivated persecution by her political opponents.
