US Children's Star Ms. Rachel Defends Rapper Macklemore After Tour Removal
American children's entertainer Ms. Rachel faced criticism after defending rapper Macklemore following his removal from Ed Sheeran's US tour over antisemitic remarks.
American children's star Rachel Griffin, known by her stage name Ms. Rachel, condemned the removal of rapper Macklemore from Ed Sheeran's tour. In an Instagram post to over 5.5 million followers, she criticized the decision, sparking widespread backlash.
Tour Controversy and Statements
Macklemore was dropped from the upcoming US leg of Ed Sheeran's tour after several major venues informed concert promoters that they would refuse to host the rapper due to his previous controversial statements and antisemitic remarks during a New Jersey concert.
"Imagine looking back in 20 years and removing someone from a tour because they spoke out," Griffin wrote in her post, ignoring the October 7 massacre and the abduction of over 250 hostages by Hamas.
Reactions and Industry Response
Promoters from Messina Touring Group issued a statement to Rolling Stone explaining that venues threatened to cancel the shows entirely, which would have harmed hundreds of thousands of fans. Consequently, Macklemore was removed from the remaining support slots.
