Mordechai David questioned by police: details of the case

Right-wing activist Mordechai David was questioned this morning, Monday, by police on suspicion of assaulting protest activist Amos Doron following a confrontation between the two. The investigation comes as Doron himself faces two separate indictments: one regarding the arson of recycling bins in Jerusalem's Rehavia neighborhood, and the second for assault and threats against Liran Baruch during a demonstration in Tel Aviv.

Footage published in recent days on social media indicates that David arrived at the location where Doron was present, and in one clip, Doron is heard calling the police to the scene. The investigation is taking place against the backdrop of the fact that Doron himself is currently facing two indictments in two different cases. The left-wing activist will also be questioned later.

The first indictment is related to the protest events in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem in September 2025. The State Attorney's Office filed indictments with the Jerusalem District Court against Doron and three other defendants, claiming they were involved in planning and setting fire to recycling bins in the area adjacent to the Prime Minister's residence.

According to the indictment, the group members planned to ignite six locations to create what was described as a "ring of fire" in the area. For this purpose, according to the prosecution, a dedicated group was set up on the Signal app, a briefing was held, and tasks were assigned. In practice, five locations were ignited, and the fires caused damage to vegetation, property, and vehicles, as well as endangering residents in the area. Doron and the other defendants are presumed innocent.

In June 2026, another indictment was filed against Doron, this time following a confrontation with Liran Baruch during a demonstration at the Kaplan junction in Tel Aviv. According to the indictment, Baruch arrived at the demonstration and was identified by a group of protesters as someone holding positions contrary to the goals of the protest. Subsequently, it is alleged, Doron approached him and pressed his body against him.

According to the charge, Doron kicked Baruch, pushed him several times, and continued to approach him even when he tried to move away. People who were at the scene were finally forced to separate the two. The indictment states:

"By his actions, the defendant unlawfully assaulted the complainant and also threatened him with behavior intended to cause unlawful harm to his body and safety with the aim of intimidating and provoking him."

These charges have not yet been decided, and Doron is considered innocent as long as he has not been convicted in court.
