Middle East Defense Shift: US, Israel and Arab States Forge New Security Ties
Arab states in the Gulf are shifting towards a US-led regional security coalition involving Israel, following high-level CENTCOM military talks in Germany aimed at countering Iranian aggression.
A significant behind-the-scenes shift is underway in the Middle East as Gulf states increasingly recognize that Iran's aggression can no longer be tolerated and that a joint regional approach is required. For the first time, Arab nations are showing a willingness to participate in a US-led coalition, quietly dropping their opposition to security cooperation with Israel. One of the primary catalysts for this change has been Israeli defense assistance provided to the United Arab Emirates during the conflict, proving that Israel stands firmly by its partners in times of crisis.
Building on this momentum, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) recently hosted a high-level military summit in Germany, bringing together senior commanders from the United States, Israel, and several Arab nations. According to reports, participants discussed the ongoing confrontation with Iran and broader regional security tensions. The rare gathering allowed military chiefs from Israel and Gulf states without formal diplomatic ties to exchange views on regional defense architectures and maritime security, particularly ensuring free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
Simultaneously, CENTCOM is actively working to foster a strategic dialogue between Israel and Saudi Arabia, aiming to assist Riyadh in countering threats from the Houthis. Following recent Houthi attacks and growing disillusionment with alternative alliances, Saudi officials have shown renewed openness. Israeli officials emphasize that while diplomatic ties require substantive repair, the current crisis presents a unique window of opportunity to realign regional partnerships and counter extremist axes in the Middle East.
"This only reinforces the belief that we need a military coalition and relations with our American friends and like-minded nations, because this is our best defense," noted a senior Arab official following the high-level talks, reflecting a profound strategic recalculation across the region.
