Israeli Singer Meydad Tasa Opens Up About Surviving Youth Abuse
Israeli singer Meydad Tasa opens up about surviving sexual abuse by his former manager during his youth, discussing the deep repression and why he chose to speak out.
At the age of 12, Meydad Tasa released his first album, having already performed in front of 20,000 people in a stadium and released ten albums. However, two years ago, he revealed a secret he had kept for many years, claiming that his manager of 15 years had sexually harassed him during his youth.
In an interview with Avi Kakon on Keshet 12, he shared his struggle and what led him to speak out after a long time. "I only understood it at 25. I got married at 23, and only two years later did I tell my wife about it. The level of silencing is insane—I didn't even tell myself," Tasa said about the sexual harassment he experienced in his youth.
The singer also added the reason why he decided to open up: "I thought about this matter because of the children. I told myself, 'Master of the Universe, if I don't open this up, I won't be fit and whole to raise the children properly.' I had to do it. It is a great miracle that this happened because I know how much difficulty survivors have in opening up their story."
