A surge in burglaries across the Merhavim Regional Council in the western Negev has prompted law enforcement to heighten security measures and deploy reinforcements. Local council head and Regional Authorities Center chairman, Shay Hajaj, addressed residents, stating that the council is coordinating with police commanders to step up operations and secure increased manpower.

"This is an escalation that must not be tolerated, and we demand that the forces deploy all necessary measures to ensure order and security, including reinforced units, to halt this phenomenon," Hajaj wrote. Residents report a growing sense of vulnerability, with security footage capturing masked intruders entering homes in broad daylight and at night, even while occupants are present.

In response to the growing security concerns, the council has issued heightened safety guidelines, urging residents to lock doors and windows, secure valuables, and immediately report any suspicious activity. Meanwhile, local security teams, Border Police, and officers from the Ofakim, Netivot, and Merhavim police stations are operating in coordination to bolster deterrence and protect the community.

Police officials stated that comprehensive investigations were launched immediately upon receiving reports of the break-ins, involving evidence collection and various investigative actions aimed at apprehending the suspects and bringing them to justice.
