Meghan Markle may make a significant return to the acting world, nearly a decade after she parted ways with the series "Suits" and the career that made her famous. The Duchess of Sussex is in talks to join the third season of "The Gentlemen," the successful crime series by Guy Ritchie. According to reports, the talks are still in an early stage and no agreement has been signed, but the possibility is sparking special interest because Markle herself previously stated that she had no intention of returning to the profession.

"The Gentlemen" follows Eddie Horniman, played by Theo James, who unexpectedly receives the family title and the vast estate of his father after his death. However, he discovers that a huge cannabis cultivation business is operating under the estate. Alongside him, Kaya Scodelario and Giancarlo Esposito also participate in the series. The filming is taking place in the UK and the plot is set in England.

It is not yet known what role Markle might receive or in how many episodes she will appear. The contacts are, according to reports, in "very early stages." However, if she joins the series, it would be a much bigger step than the small appearance she already filmed in 2025 in the comedy "Close Personal Friends," where she appeared as herself.

The possibility is particularly intriguing against the backdrop of the path Markle has taken since she left her royal duties alongside Prince Harry in 2020. In the years that have passed, she has tried to build herself a career in various fields, including content production, podcasts, and lifestyle businesses. Now she may return precisely to the profession that gave her fame even before she entered the royal family.

Royal expert Kinsey Schofield wondered what the meaning of such a return is after the years in which Markle tried to build herself a new professional identity. "Podcaster, producer, lifestyle entrepreneur, philanthropist, media mogul," listed Schofield. According to her, a return to acting might show that in the end, the most suitable professional identity for Markle is precisely the one from which she distanced herself.

The move would also be a notable change from the things Markle said four years ago. When asked in 2022 if she would ever return to acting, she replied simply: "I'm done." After that, she qualified it slightly and added: "I guess you should never say never, but my intention is definitely not to."

Since retiring from royal duties, Markle has recorded successes alongside projects that did not mature as planned. Her highly publicized partnership with Spotify ended in 2023 after one season of the podcast "Archetypes," and the planned animation series "Pearl" was canceled even before it reached production. The lifestyle brand she launched went through a prolonged process and was finally relaunched under the name As Ever. In March 2026, it was also reported that her lifestyle show on Netflix, "With Love, Meghan," would continue through seasonal specials and would not return for a third season.

Markle knows the acting world well. She started with small roles in series, also worked as a suitcase model on the show "Deal or No Deal," and later won the role of Rachel Zane in the legal drama "Suits." She filmed her last scenes in 2017, after her engagement to Harry, and the last episode featuring her aired in April 2018.

Parallel to the contacts around the series, Harry and Meghan announced that they intend to spend an extended period in the UK during the autumn. A spokesperson on their behalf stated that they want their children to spend more time in the country that constitutes a significant part of their family story. However, their business activity will remain in the USA and they will also keep their home in California. According to People, Markle's possible acting project was among the factors that influenced the decision to stay in the UK.

Schofield believes that returning to the old profession is not necessarily a step backward. According to her, "Of all the professional reinventions that Meghan has tried, acting is the one that makes the most sense. She has real experience in the field. There is nothing embarrassing about returning to the profession that made her successful in the first place."

However, at this stage, it is only a possibility. If the contacts mature, Markle will face a different test than the projects she has promoted since she left the royal house: will the audience still want to see her as an actress – and not just as Meghan Markle.
