Former Hostage Matan Angrest Visits Sukkah of Missing Haymanot Kasao
Former hostage Matan Angrest visited the Kasao family sukkah on Saturday, expressing solidarity and urging the public to help bring missing Haymanot Kasao home.
Former hostage Matan Angrest visited the sukkah of the Kasao family on Saturday to express his support for the return of their missing daughter, Haymanot Kasao.
A Visit Rooted in Shared Anguish
Angrest, an IDF armored corps soldier who was abducted from his tank at the Nahal Oz outpost on October 7, 2023, and returned from Hamas captivity after 738 days, arrived alongside his parents, Anat and Chagai. The family spent two years fighting for Matan's release and deeply empathizes with Haymanot's parents, Benchi and Tesfiah.
"I can say that I felt myself how much support from the people helped me return, and it was important for me to come and express care to this amazing family, and the desire to help them bring their daughter back," Angrest stated during the visit.
The Struggle for Awareness
The Kasao family sukkah has welcomed thousands of visitors this week seeking to learn about Haymanot's disappearance and offer solidarity. Following the holiday, the sukkah is slated for dismantling at the behest of the Jerusalem municipality, though the family aims to establish a permanent protest tent in an accessible public area.
Benchi Kasao shared her grief with Angrest, emphasizing the pain of uncertainty. In response, Angrest vowed to keep advocating until Haymanot is safely home, urging the Israeli public to maintain awareness and support the family's ongoing struggle.
