Liraz Charhi Opens Up About Her Divorce and the State of the Country

Liraz Charhi and Tom Avni announced their divorce last October after 16 years together and 12 years of marriage. In a recent interview on Rafi Reshef's show "Intimi," the Israeli star opened up about her career, the separation, and her deep pain regarding the complex security situation in Israel after the October 7 tragedy.

Life After Separation and National Grief

Reflecting on her divorce from Avni, the father of her two daughters, Jon and Noor, Charhi shared: "Tom is an amazing father and partner. Even to break things up, you need a good partner. We chose to separate after years of thought. It is tough to walk into a house I built and find it empty at times. I cried a lot in recent years; life fell apart. First of all, our country fell apart, and I don't know what is going to happen here."

She added that her greatest guilt stems not just from the family breakup, but from the reality her children face:

The biggest guilt I feel is that my daughters are growing up in a broken country that I am not sure can be fixed.

Career Horizons and International Dreams

During the interview, Charhi also recalled an exciting international opportunity when she was offered a role alongside Oscar-winning American actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, which included a full-frontal nude scene. She joked that she accepted it so her future grandchildren could see that "grandma was a bombshell." Beyond specific roles, she noted that stepping abroad always grants her a unique sense of freedom and a second home.

Appearing later on Channel 13's "Shishi" program, she confessed to feeling a sense of personal failure regarding the divorce: "To get married, go through pregnancies, raise children, and build a career—all for that simple moment of sitting on the porch with your partner, drinking a glass of wine, cracking sunflower seeds, and staying good friends."
