According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the attacks targeted the Obolonskyi, Darnytskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts, with a building belonging to the National Academy of Sciences catching fire near the city center.
The strike occurred near prominent locations, including the Taras Shevchenko National University, the central opera house, and the German Embassy. Social media footage captured dramatic scenes of individuals clinging to exterior windows as thick smoke billowed from the burning Academy of Sciences building.
Casualties and Official Reactions
Mayor Klitschko confirmed that one woman was killed and three other people sustained injuries during the daytime assault. Rescue operations were immediately deployed to search the damaged structures for anyone trapped inside.
"Russia will certainly face a response for this. Every one of Ukraine's partners must understand from this terror that supporting Ukraine means real support for human life," stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Developments on the Eastern Front
Meanwhile, new details emerged regarding the Ukrainian counteroffensive near the town of Lyman in the Donbas region. According to military footage, at least 250 Russian soldiers surrendered and laid down their arms during intense fighting around the settlement of Nova.
Ukrainian forces claimed the liberation of several settlements during the operation, which has been ongoing since July, while inflicting heavy personnel losses on Russian forces in the sector.
