Assayag, the niece of Meni and Shalom Assayag, made headlines in recent years due to claims that she experienced exclusion in academia following her public support for Netanyahu and the government. She also delivered a speech at a rally supporting the judicial overhaul, speaking about her political views and the price she claimed to have paid for them.
Her joining Likud comes after her name was recently mentioned as one of the figures Netanyahu considered bringing into the party. According to previous reports, Netanyahu even met with her and examined the possibility of reserving a spot for her on the Likud list.
However, Assayag is not expected to serve as a Member of Knesset. According to recent reports, she is slated to integrate into a senior executive role in the field of higher education. Netanyahu has already presented her as part of a group of new joiners to Likud, with her academic and research background at the center of her planned integration.
