Coalition Chairman Ofir Katz expressed support for the death penalty bill for terrorists proposed by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, calling for its application to the perpetrator of the recent Binyamin terror attack.
In an interview with Reshet Bet, Katz stated that the Binyamin attack precisely matches the criteria outlined in the Otzma Yehudit bill. He emphasized that the High Court of Justice should not obstruct the will of the legislature.
The remarks follow a security discussion held prior to Yom Kippur, where Ben Gvir raised the capital punishment issue. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked the IDF for an assessment regarding its implementation.
IDF representatives at the meeting stated there was no operational impediment, though the Military Advocate General was absent. A dedicated cabinet meeting will be convened to evaluate the legal and practical implementation.
