A 12-year-old boy, identified as Nadav, suffered severe eye injuries after crashing his bicycle into a wall while riding without a helmet. The collision caused his glasses to shatter, sending glass fragments directly into his left eye, alongside injuries to his neck and left knee.

Upon arrival at the pediatric emergency room at Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot, Dr. Liat Rom identified the severity of the trauma. Following a CT scan that ruled out major head trauma, ophthalmology experts were urgently called to assess the damage.

Prof. Aryeh Marcovitch, head of the ophthalmology department, detailed the critical condition: "We observed a distorted pupil and the iris protruding through a corneal laceration. Additionally, cuts were found on both eyelids, with a glass shard lodged inside the upper eyelid, posing an immediate threat to his vision."

Nadav underwent a complex three-hour emergency surgery under general anesthesia the same evening. Surgeons successfully repositioned the iris, repaired the corneal laceration, sutured the eyelids, and removed the glass fragment. Marcovitch emphasized the extreme precision required to ensure proper corneal sealing without significant distortion.

Following successful recovery and close post-operative monitoring, doctors confirmed that Nadav avoided potential complications such as traumatic cataract, and his vision has significantly improved with glasses as follow-up care continues.
