Jerusalem Court Sentences Brothers to Prison for Honor-Related Attack

The Jerusalem District Court has sentenced Ahmad Ahmad Abdullah to 19 years in prison and his brother, Muhammad Ahmad Abdullah, to 14.5 years in prison. The two were convicted of attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapons offenses, and obstruction of justice following a planned attack driven by a family honor dispute.

The Setup and Attack Near Jerusalem

In April 2023, the brothers plotted to attack the victim over a romantic relationship between him and their sister. To lure the victim, Ahmad's then-girlfriend used a fake TikTok account to arrange a meeting near the Mar Elias Monastery parking lot in Jerusalem. When the victim arrived in a car with another person, the brothers blocked the vehicle, attacked it with clubs, and smashed the windows.

Ahmad fired 11 shots at the vehicle, one of which struck the driver in the chest, causing him to crash into a pole. The attackers then pursued the primary target, beat him with iron rods, stole his phone, and Ahmad shot him in the upper body from a range of about one meter. Both victims sustained severe injuries, and the target required a spleen removal.

Verdict and Legal Proceedings

The Jerusalem District Attorney's office requested harsher sentences, citing a meticulously planned revenge attack. The court noted that the defendants showed no remorse and failed to take responsibility. In addition to the prison terms, each defendant was ordered to pay a total of 115,000 shekels in compensation to the victims, and 40,000 shekels were confiscated from Ahmad. A female accomplice was convicted of assault and obstruction of justice, receiving a minor sentence.
